Well, Happy Readers, I’m happy to report this post is more in line with what I typically put on my blog π€. (Yes, the Princeton Book Festival post is still coming! Was going to do the Glen Rock Festival, but most of my photos were useless π£π)
Two days ago, when I was able to catch one of my beloved Twitter chats #kidlitchat, talented author Kaitlyn Leann Sanchez popped in and let us know about her aMAZing contest: the Kidlit Fall Writing Frenzy. I still can’t get over how generous all the prize donors are. I mean really β 51 prizes that include picture book critiques, first chapter MG/YA critiques, signed books, and more! (Pssst…I’ve got my eye on a personalized one for my granddaughter. Well, ANY book would do, really. Actually, any prize for that matter lol)
Anyway, the few times I’ve gone down the “prompts” path, I’ve found several to be very inspiring. When I looked at the picture prompts for this contest, this is the one that most inspired me:
Just look at that moon! Seriously…is that cool or what? π
The rules were only restricted by word count: 200 or less. Subject matter and format were left wide open π For me, prompts have typically lent to MG and YA prose. I consider this piece YA and was able to pare it down to exactly 200 words π . I hope you enjoy it!
I already feel like a “winner” having gotten some fun writing done today, so thanks for hosting this stupENDous contest, Kaitlyn and GOOD LUCK to all participants! βππ
CONTEST UPDATE! Well, gang, I’m happy to report I did win one of the many prizes:a SHUTTERFLY Gift Certificate from which I gifted my granddaughter, Charlotte:
- a GORgeous, Personalized Book (illustrated by THE Mary GrandprΓ©!)
- a custom Memory Game (I incorporated images of all her immediate family)
- and a magnet with a pic of her for my parents.
I was totally impressed with the beauty and quality of these items and could NOT be more thrilled.Β πβ€ππ§‘π€πππππππ
Sounds as if you AND the stray, Onyx are winners. I love the O.Henry ending & the entire cattime tale.

Jan, thank you so much π I’m glad you liked it, and thank you for commenting! It was fun letting my imagination go, and of course–playing with words. I hope you’re well!

You are sweet with the well wishes – thank you so much. We’ve had a huge loss, which I will write about eventually at Bookseedstudio and after that, I look forward to posting my clinic visit update, which is good news.
Also, if I’ve never told you, I find your logo to be such a joy to see. And I know you are an artist, so did you create it? So many elements about it to make me smile.

Jan, it’s been SO long since I’ve been by your blog (and many others!), it makes me sad. I haven’t been keeping up with much of anything except bits and pieces I catch through tweets and emails. I need to catch up! And it sounds like you weren’t well, but things are improving?
And yes, thank you about the logo (or do you mean the header?)! That REALLY makes me feel good π I did all the artwork throughout both my blogs–all the icons for every page. I wish I was posting more regularly and fulfilling what I originally hoped for both blogs, but I’ve ended up doing posts that require a lot more work than I figured and have trouble doing “quick” lol Anyway, I’m VERY happy you enjoy the artwork and that it makes you SMILE! Brings me joy and makes the work feel SO worth it π Thank you!

Thanks so much, Lauri! π No, I don’t share much online. Just a few poems is about it, I’d say. I did a few “first pages” on Kathy’s blog. Stuff like that. Articles. Glad you like it! π
