As we all know, there are times we simply cannot resist doing something, right? This is one of those times.*** When I see young people doing constructive, valuable, worthwhile things, it elates me—my heart overflows with joy 🙂 Since becoming active on Twitter and following Kidlit-related blogs, happily I discovered “kid” authors! I was immediately smitten—totally hooked! Felicia Maziarz is one such young author and it just so happens she recently released her SECOND book in a series! Pretty impressive, don’t you think? I can tell you I’m VERY impressed (in fact, here’s my review), but I’m certainly not the only one who recognizes the quality of these books.
Her first book The Perpetual Papers of the Pack of Pets won the Silver Award for the 2014 “Best Book by Youth Author” given by Moonbeam Children’s Book Awards to authors under 18 years of age. Felicia was only 9 years old when she wrote it! Now its sequel The Observations of Obstreperous Animals has received a 5-Star Reader’s Favorite review! OK—wow! These are no small potatoes, folks 😀
I can confidently confide to you that the antics of this “Pack of Pets” are perpetually entertaining and certainly something to celebrate! So, let’s get on with the Book Blast, shall we?

*** Please note: It will be a rare occurrence when I actively promote a book release on my blog, in a committed and formal way because:
1) “Writer Side UP!” is not that type of venue
2) I’m unable to make these type commitments (I won’t even commit to a rigid posting schedule for myself!)
3) I already know I won’t be able to read most books (mainly chapter books and novels) and would never feel comfortable championing a book I haven’t read, especially since many books don’t meet a 100% G-rated standard which I uphold on both blogs. I may, at times, mention or recommend books in posts, but may not link to them for the reasons just stated (I’m doing my best to avoid linking to sites which contain ads).
Also, please note that I’m not a reviewer. I can’t make that work and wouldn’t want to let anyone down, so I thank you for your understanding in this respect.
“Kid” authors are an obvious exception, and I feel very strongly about encouraging and supporting them with such worthwhile, creative activity! The other exception would be if I ask an author or illustrator to do a “Lighter Side Up” interview which, when possible, would be posted on or about a release date since that is what makes sense. This will not be often 😦 since my “Lighter Side Up” Q&As have turned out to be very time-intensive, and will need to keep those posts to a minimum. Of course, most picture books are G-rated which fit into my intentions for both blogs and their decorum, so that will likely be the direction I head in that respect.
Running blogs is very new to me and I still need to get a handle on the scheduling and the inordinate amount of time I’m spending on them. Things WILL balance out 🙂 Thank you!
Terrific post, Donna! And wonderful to see young, creative writers making their mark. Felicia, Stanley and Katrina, congratulations and much success.

Thank you so much for participating in our Book Blasty Tour and for the nice note. You made our paws dance – and Felicia showed Cool Mom her rendition of how our paws dance. Have a paw-tastic rest of the week. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

lol Ste J 🙂 Well, I can’t take credit for all of it! All the content between “So, let’s get on with the Book Blast, shall we?” and my “* Please note: It will be a rare occurrence…” was given to me to post. I just had to format it all in WordPress. And I’m SURE Felicia and the pets totally welcome and appreciate your well wishes! 😀
